ITHACA, N.Y. –  The No. 12 Cornell wrestling team welcomes No. 19 Lehigh to the highly anticipated Rumble and Tumble in Newman Arena for this Sunday, Jan. 12. Co-hosted with Cornell gymnastics, the event will kick off at 12 p.m., with the gymnastics team taking the floor for their first rotation, followed shortly by the wrestling competition. Each sport will be broadcast on ESPN+.

ALL ABOUT LEHIGH

The Mountain Hawks are currently ranked No. 19 in the NWCA after three duals with a record of 1-2, they have faced two ranked teams (No. 21 Pittsburgh and No. 1 Penn State) so far this season with two ranked teams remaining on the schedule (No.12 Cornell and No. 23 Army West Point).

Lehigh returned three All-Americans from last season, Ryan Crookham, Luke Stanich and Michael Beard with four total ranked wrestlers; Crookham is ranked first in the 133lb weight class.

The Mountain Hawks are 64-34-3 over the Big Red. In the last meeting on Jan. 13 of last year, Lehigh squeaked past the Big Red with a 17-16 win at home. The Mountain Hawks have won four of the last five meetings in the series.

LAST SEASON VS LEHIGH

The No. 23 Lehigh Mountain Hawks used a late rally to defeat the No. 9 Cornell wrestling team 17-16 at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The loss against Lehigh was the Big Red's first EIWA loss of the season.

The Big Red built a 16-8 lead by winning five of the first seven matches, with victories from Vince Cornella (141), Ethan Fernandez (149), Meyer Shapiro (157), Julian Ramirez (165) and Chris Foca (184).  Lehigh won the last three matches of the dual, securing the victory with Luke Stanich's 2-0 decision over Brett Ungar.

At 141, Vince Cornella won a battle of ranked wrestlers 5-1 over junior Malyke Hines on the strength of a first-period takedown and ride out. Ethan Fernandez scored two first period takedowns that stood in a 6-3 decision over first-year Kelvin Griffin, who made his dual debut at 149. Third-ranked Julian Ramirez closed out the first half of the dual with Cornell's lone bonus point win, an 11-3 major decision over junior Jake Logan at 165.

MISSOURI RECAP

The No. 12 wrestling team defeated the No. 19 University of Missouri 26-12 on Friday night in Mizzou Arena, the third consecutive meeting the Big Red has topped the Tigers.

Tyler Ferrara started the momentum in the 133lb weight class for the Big Red with a tight 3-2 decision over Kade Moore. No. 32 Josh Saunders followed up with a 12-4 major decision over Josh Edmond, Saunders ended the match with a takedown and a nearfall.

No. 2 Meyer Shapiro started his first period with two quick takedowns to start with a 6-1 lead over No. 32 James Conway. In the second for Shapiro, he earned two nearfalls and a penalty point before closing it out in the third with one more takedown and an escape to win his bout 17-2.

Freshman No. 14 Simon Ruiz scored four takedowns alongside an escape and penalty points to take his bout 17-3 over Jake Stoffel.

No. 8 Chris Foca beat ranked opponent No. 9 Colton Hawks 9-1 by decision that included a nearfall, takedown, reversal and riding time. Julian Ramirez beat Joel Mylin 9-2 with two takedowns, a reversal and riding time. Aiden Hanning finished it up for Cornell with a 2-0 win over Jarrett Stoner.
