Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#5 Big Red Clicks On All Cylinders In 6-0 Victory Over #7 St. Lawrence

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 5 Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated no. 7 St. Lawrence 6-0 on Friday evening at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 16-4-4 on the season, while the Saints dropped to 16-8-5. Cornell moves to the top of the ECAC Hockey standings with the victory.

Ashley Messier (two), Gabbie Rud, Katie Chan, and Mckenna Van Gelder registered Big Red goals in the contest. Lily Delianedis, Piper Grober, Chan, Alyssa Regalado, Kaitlin Jockims, Grace Dwyer, Rud, and Abby Thibodeau were credited with assists in the game. Annelies Bergmann collected 20 saves in the contest.

After 13 minutes of no game-stoppages, Guilday opened up the scoring with a strong slap-shot from the blue line to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead.

Less than one minute into the second period, Messier showed off her skating skills as she circled around the ice and ripped a shot past the St. Lawrence net-minder to extend Cornell's lead to 2-0.

Shortly after a timely Cornell penalty-kill, the Saints mishandled the puck, and it ultimately found Rud's stick who made the most of the opportunity to put the Big Red ahead 3-0. Chan followed that up with another goal moments later, maneuvering the puck around Nordström after Jockims found her camping in the slot.

Thibodeau sent the puck toward the net and Van Gelder was ready for the rebound as she found the back of the net midway through the third. St. Lawrence pulled its goaltender as time wound down in search of a miracle comeback, but Cornell made the Saints pay by netting an empty-netter to put the game on ice.

Bergmann stopped all 20 shots that came her way, earning her seventh shutout of the season, and fourth against a ranked-opponent.
