Cornell’s Ivy Win Streak Snapped in Road Loss to Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Cornell women's volleyball saw its undefeated Ivy League run halted Saturday evening, falling in straight sets to Penn, 29-27, 25-16, 25-16, inside The Rockwell Gym.

The opening frame was a heavyweight battle. Cornell erased multiple deficits and had a set point late behind senior Eliza Konvicka's early offensive burst, but Penn strung together clutch points down the stretch and closed it out, 29–27. The Quakers rode that momentum into the second, using a 10–0 mid-set run — fueled in part by service pressure from Addison Pollock — to break the set open and take it 25–16.

Cornell attempted to steady in the third behind contributions from Nicole Mallus and Mackenzie Parsons, but Penn kept the pressure on from the service line and at the pins. The Quakers' block sealed the sweep at 25–16, handing the Big Red their first Ivy League loss of the season and moving Cornell to 6–1 in conference play.

Konvicka led Cornell with 12 kills, followed by Mallus with 11. Parsons added timely offense and was active at the net with six block assists.

It was an uncharacteristic night of miscues for the Big Red, who committed 23 attack errors and yielded nine service aces on serve receive.

But if history under Coach Trudy Vande Berg is any indication, Cornell won't stay down long.

Cornell returns to the court next weekend looking to regroup and begin a new streak.
