#5 Big Red Upends Harvard 5-2 at Bright-Landry Center

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The no. 5-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Harvard Crimson 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Bright-Landry Center. The Big Red improved to 3-0-0, while the Crimson experienced its first setback of the year and dropped to 2-1-0.

Georgia Schiff Lindzi Avar, Sarah MacEachern, Avi Adam, and Nora Curtis registered Big Red goals in the contest. Adam, Rose Dwyer, Mckenna Van Gelder, Lindzi (two), Karel Prefontaine, Piper Grober, and Grace Dwyer were credited with assists in the game.

The Crimson opened up the game with the leg up in regards to shots-on-goal, but it would be the Big Red who made theirs count. Although being out-shot 13-6, Cornell scored a pair of goals in the opening stanza coming from Schiff on a breakaway and Avar in the low-slot to create a 2-0 Big Red lead after the first.

In the second, MacEachern got the scoring going when she barely found space in the top right corner to extend Cornell's lead to 3-1. Harvard finally broke their ice when Hamman scored with under four minutes remaining in the second frame. Adam scored at 17:58 to re-establish the three-goal advantage.

Biotti put one in for the Crimson to make things interesting at the start of the third stanza. Curtis put an end to Harvard's chances when she scored with less than five minutes remaining to help Cornell skate away with a 5-2 victory at Bright-Landry Center.
