ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team closed its fall team racing season with a strong weekend across two championship regattas, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy and a seventh-place showing at the War Memorial Regatta.
At the MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy, hosted by Fordham, the Big Red totaled just 76 points over 14 races in each division, finishing second behind Georgetown (68) in a deep field of national contenders. In A Division, senior skipper Sophia Devling and senior crew Sophia Mulvania dominated the fleet with six race wins and 12 top-three finishes to claim the division title with 28 points - the lowest total in either division. In B Division, sophomore Gilda Dondona and freshman Grace Penque placed second with 48 points, highlighted by two wins and six podium finishes, while reserves Hope Campbell and Adrianna D'Agati rounded out the lineup.
Meanwhile, Cornell's coed squad battled challenging conditions at the War Memorial Regatta on Seneca Lake, placing seventh overall with 150 points over eight races per division. Sophomore Ava Gustafson and Laine Reshefsky guided the A Division boat to ninth with a late third-place finish, while junior Pilar Cundey and senior Maya Conway led the B Division crew to eighth with a pair of top-five results. Kate Constan, Emil Damji, Beylen Gode, Marcus Greco, Anna Iacobucci and Matthew Schmitt served as reserves as the Big Red wrapped up another strong weekend of competition to close the fall team schedule.
The Big Red closes the fall when Dondona looks to claim the ICSA Singlehanded championship when she sails on Nov. 8-9 in Norfolk, Va.
