All-Around Effort Leads #4 Big Red Past Syracuse, 5-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 4-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Syracuse Orange 5-0 on Tuesday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 5-0-0 on the season, while the Orange fell to 5-6-0 on the year.

Rose Dwyer, Georgia Schiff, Lindzi Avar, Mckenna Van Gelder, and Piper Grober registered Big Red goals in the game. Beatrice Perron-Roy, Delaney Fleming (two), Van Gelder, Nora Curits, and Karel Prefontaine, Grober, and Grace Dwyer were credited with assists in the contest.

Bergmann collected 22 saves in the game for her third shutout of the season. With the victory, she moved to 5-0-0 on the season.

The Big Red began the game with its skates under them, maintaining the puck on their end of the ice for a vast majority of the opening stanza. Perron-Roy cycled around the ice after taking away a Syracuse pass and found Dwyer at the point who made it count for the opening goal of the contest.

Schiff scored one minute into the second period on a rebound from Fleming's chance to extend the lead to 2-0. Avar tipped in a power-play goal on the feed from Prefontaine and Curtis to add another tally for the Big Red. Van Gelder scored six minutes into the third on scramble in front of the net during a Big Red power-play. Grober finished the deal on a feed from Fleming to make the score 5-0.

The Orange made Bergmann earn her shutout in the final moments, as Syracuse founds itself on a 3 on 5 power-play. The Big Red penalty-kill took care of business and remained unscathed on the season to gift Bergmann her third shutout of the year.
