#4 Big Red Dominates #15 Brown Behind Three Power-Play Goals

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 4-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the no. 15-ranked Brown Bears 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 7-0-0, while the Bears dropped to 3-2-1.

Alyssa Regalado, Georgia Schiff (two), Karel Prefontaine, and Mckenna Van Gelder scored goals for the Big Red. Prefontaine, Nora Curtis, Delaney Fleming, Lindzi Avar (two), Grace Dwyer (two), Avi Adam, and Schiff were credited with assists in the contest.

Annelies Bergmann claimed 18 saves in the game. She was tasked making nine stops in the opening frame, six in the second stanza, and three in the final period of play. With the victory, she remained undefeated between the pipes this season at 7-0-0.

Regalado scored the opening goal of the contest at 13:08 by making the power-play count on a feed from Prefontaine and Curtis. Schiff added one in the closing seconds of the first period to give Cornell a 2-0 lead.

Schiff netted another one, which was dealt by Dwyer for her first of two assists in the game, halfway through the second period to extend the Big Red lead to 3-0. Schiff's second goal would be the lone tally scored in the second period between both squads.

Prefontaine put in the second Big Red power-play goal on the evening in to give Cornell a commanding 4-0 lead seven minutes into the third frame. Sam Broz spoiled Bergmann's shutout at the 12:18 to cut the score to 4-1.

Van Gelder put the game on ice by scoring Cornell's third power-play tally of the contest. The Big Red remained unscathed on its penalty-kill after stopping two Brown power-plays.

Next Up
The Cornell women's ice hockey team will return to the ice when it travels to Class of 1965 Arena on Friday, November 14th for the first game of a home-and-away weekend series against the Colgate Raiders.

The Big Red will then host the Raiders at Lynah Rink at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
