ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team opened its 2025 season on Friday night in Hanover, N.H., competing in a tri-meet against Harvard and Dartmouth. The Big Red earned a dual-meet victory over the host Big Green, 158–142, while falling to nationally ranked Harvard, 215–85. Cornell delivered several strong early-season swims, highlighted by an event win from senior co-captain Pietro Ubertalli in the 200-yard freestyle and multiple top-three finishes across both sprint and middle-distance events.

Ubertalli picked up Cornell's first win of the night with a controlled and consistent performance in the 200 free, touching in 1:36.25 to edge Harvard's David Greeley by two hundredths of a second. The senior later added a third-place finish in the 200 IM (1:48.68) and a fifth-place showing in the 100 free (44.92). Cornell also came out strong in the opening relay, where the quartet of Ubertalli, Haihan Xu, Daniel Simoes, and Josh Toothman placed second in the 200 medley relay at 1:28.81. In the sprint events, Toothman earned a third-place finish in the 50 free (20.15), while senior Jacques Grove added a third-place effort in the 100 free (44.54).

Cornell found additional scoring strength in the backstroke and breaststroke groups. Junior Blake Conway posted a runner-up finish in the 100 back (47.85) and returned for seventh in the 200 back (1:50.84). Xu led the breaststroke corps with a pair of podium swims, placing second in the 100 breast (54.78) and third in the 200 breast (1:59.41), while sophomore Emmanuel Gadson secured fifth in the 100 breast (55.84) and fourth in the 200 breast (2:00.39). Freshman Duke Garvin paced Cornell's distance swimmers, taking fourth in the 1000 free (9:30.01) and seventh in the 500 free (4:40.07), with junior Julian Correa close behind in both events.

On the diving boards, sophomore Max Reis Trovillion led the Big Red with a fourth-place finish on 3-meter (304.40) and ninth on 1-meter (265.35). Cornell closed the meet with a strong performance in the 200 free relay, where the squad of Toothman, Simoes, Mac Marsh, and Grove claimed second in 1:20.96.
