ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's hockey junior defenseman
George Fegaras has been named ECAC Hockey's ADAPT Nutrition Defender of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning (Nov. 17).
The honor extends Cornell's impressive run of weekly conference awards to three consecutive weeks, following Rookie of the Week recognition for forward
Gio DiGiulian (Nov. 3) and goaltender
Alexis Cournoyer (Nov. 10).
Fegaras recorded three assists during the Big Red's sweep of Brown and Yale, helping Cornell post a six-point weekend. He contributed two assists in Friday's 4-1 victory over Brown before adding another helper in Saturday's 5-2 win against Yale.
His three assists over the weekend tied him with RPI's Kazimier Sobieski (1-2—3) and Union's Tyler Dunbar (0-3—3) for the most points among ECAC Hockey defensemen for the week, while his assist total trailed only Colgate forward Ryan Sullivan for the conference lead.
In Friday's home opener, Fegaras assisted on both of freshman forward
Caton Ryan's goals, tying his single-game career high for both assists and points. The Richmond Hill, Ontario, native added the secondary assist on junior forward
Ryan Walsh's first goal Saturday night.
With four assists this season, Fegaras has now recorded helpers in three straight games — the longest such streak of his collegiate career and tied for his longest point streak overall. He leads the Big Red in assists through six games.
No. 20-ranked Cornell (4-2-0, 3-1-0 ECAC Hockey) continues its four-game homestand Friday, Nov. 21, hosting Union (8-2-1, 2-2-0 ECAC Hockey) at Lynah Rink. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m., with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
