ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's hockey freshman goaltender
Alexis Cournoyer has been named ECAC Hockey's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday morning (Nov. 24).
The weekly honor marks the fourth consecutive week a Big Red player has earned the award, as forward
Gio DiGiulian was also named ECAC Hockey's top newcomer on Nov. 3, and junior defenseman
George Fegaras earned ECAC Hockey's ADAPT Nutrition Defender of the Week honors last week.
Continuing the stellar start of his collegiate career, Cournoyer posted a 1.00 goals-against average and .953 save percentage, stopping 41 of 43 shots in the Big Red's weekend sweep of No. 20 Union and RPI.
The Trois-Rivières, Québec, native made was able to hold the nation's third-best scoring offense to just one goal in this past Friday's 2-1 victory. Cournoyer followed up with a 23-save performance in Saturday's 6-1 triumph over RPI.
Through seven appearances, the freshman holds a 6-1-0 record with a 1.30 goals-against average and .953 save percentage, ranking third and second nationally, respectively.
No. 19-ranked Cornell returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 29, when the Big Red faces No. 18 Boston University (6-7-1, 4-4-0 Hockey East) in Red Hot Hockey at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. with game action streamed live on ESPN+.
