BURLINGTON, VT. - The no.5-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Vermont Catamounts 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Big Red improved tot 10-3-1 on the season, while the Catamounts dropped to 6-10-2 on the year.

Annelies Bergmann was tasked with making 20 saves in her victory in net. Vermont net-minder Ellie Simmons made 25 stops in the contest. Julia Mesplede scored for the Catamounts, her third marker of the series.
Thibodeau got the scoring started 12 minutes into the game when she ripped a shot from the blue-line past Simmons to put the Big Red in front 1-0. Moments later, Cornell looked to extend that lead on a power-play chance, but Vermont stood to task to keep the score in tact.
Grober was in the right place at the right time with 11 minutes left in the second stanza as she put away a rebound shot to give the Big Red a 2-0 lead. Cornell had three power-plays in the second period, and Vermont had one, with neither team lighting the lamp during their respective woman-up advantages.
Schiff added insurance to Cornell's lead, scoring the goal four minutes into the third period. The Vermont native was not done, as Schiff netted her second goal of the day 12 minutes later, this time on a power-play. Mesplede scored her third goal of the weekend unassisted to spoil Bergmann's shutout. Van Gelder put the game to rest with two minutes remaining to help Cornell secure a bounce back victory over the Catamounts.
