#8 Big Red Suffers First Shutout Loss at Lynah Rink Since 2022

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 8 Cornell women's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to the no. 9-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats, suffering it's first shutout loss at Lynah Rink since 2022. The Big Red dropped to 10-4-1 on the season, while the Bobcats improved to 14-4-1.

Piper Grober and Lindzi Avar led Cornell in shots with four each. All four of Grober and Lindzi's shots came in the third period when the Big Red out-shot the Bobcats 23-2. Annelies Bergmann made 15 saves in the loss, 12 of which came in the first stanza.

Barbirati, Watson, and Emerson scored goals for the Bobcats. Prier, D' Ottavio, and Frenette were credited with assists in the game. Frank Felicia earned 34 saves in net for Quinnipiac and a shutout victory.

The Bobcats set an early tone with a relentless forecheck from the opening puck drop. Cornell struggled to get the puck out of Quinnipiac's offensive zone. Quinnipiac managed to out-shoot Cornell 12-2 in the opening frame of action. In the final minute of the first period, Alyssa Regalado was tabbed with a high-stick infraction. Half way through that kill, Grace Dwyer (holding) and Kahlen Lamarche (embellishment) were tabbed with penalties as the first period expired.

Shortly after the penalties expired, Barbirati found pay-dirt to get the scoring started for the Bobcats. Seven minutes later, Makayla Watson added another to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead. Emerson got in all alone and added insurance for the Bobcats three minutes later.

The Big Red had an up-hill climb as the third period ticked away. Cornell had three power-play chances in a span of seven minutes, but could not find a way to produce the nation's top power-play. Desperate for a tally, Bergmann skated out of the net at the 5:47-mark. The Big Red saw a number of dangerous chances turned away by the Bobcats. Frank made 23 saves in the third period to earn the 3-0 shutout victory for the Bobcats.

With the loss, Cornell has now dropped it's fourth straight Friday game this season, after starting the season with three-straight Friday victories. Specials teams proved to be the difference in the game again, as Cornell went an uncharacteristic 0-3 on the power-play, though it went unscathed on the penalty-kill. Cornell went scoreless at Lynah Rink for the first time since falling 3-0 to Ohio State on December 18th, 2022.
