ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Gilda Dondona will represent Cornell at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship for the Janet Lutz Trophy beginning on Saturday, Nov. 8, on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Va. Hosted by Old Dominion, the two-day regatta will determine the national champion among 18 of the country's top women's singlehanded sailors.
A two-time MAISA Faye Bennett Singlehanded Champion, Dondona was the 2024 national runner-up — the highest finish ever by a Cornell sailor — and will look to become the first Big Red competitor to claim a singlehanded national title. The field includes seven of last year's top 10 finishers, including defending champion Sophia Montgomery (Harvard) and bronze medalist Okyanus Arıkan (Rhode Island).
Racing begins at 10 a.m. each day and marks the final regatta of Cornell's fall 2025 season.
