Quinnipiac Hits 11 Threes, Defeats Cornell 68-47

ITHACA, N.Y. – Quinnipiac's Jackie Grisdale scored 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from 3-point range to lead Quinnipiac to a 68-47 victory over Cornell Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena. The Bobcats improve to 5-3 on the season, while the Big Red fall to 4-6.
 
Grisdale paced Quinnipiac with 25 points in 33 minutes of action, connecting on 9-of-14 from the field and adding two rebounds. Ella O'Donnell recorded 19 points on 9-for-16 shooting, adding six rebounds and one assist. Sydney Ryan contributed 11 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Paige Girardi dished out seven assists in 34 minutes. Anna Foley added eight points off the bench.
 
Junior Rachel Kaus led Cornell with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting, connecting on 4-of-5 from the free throw line and adding six rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Junior Clarke Jackson contributed eight points on 4-for-6 shooting and two assists, while sophomore Paige Engels chipped in five points, three rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Kelsey Langston distributed four assists and added five rebounds, while freshman Ashley Childers chipped in five points off the bench.
 
Cornell shot 29.6 percent from the field (16-for-54) and 21.1 percent from 3-point range (4-for-19), while Quinnipiac finished at 45.2 percent from the floor (28-for-62) and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc (11-for-21). The Bobcats held a 38-34 rebounding advantage despite Cornell grabbing 12 offensive boards. Quinnipiac's 20 points off 10 Cornell turnovers proved decisive.
 
Quinnipiac led from the opening tip, converting on back-to-back layups before the Kaus got the Big Red on the board with an old-fashioned 3-point play. However, with the score 4-3 after Kaus' made free-throw, Quinnipiac would go on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 14-3 lead.
 
Cornell ended the opening quarter on a 10-4 run to make it an 18-13 game heading into the second stanza. Childers and Ally Pape each knocked down three's to help get the Big Red back into the game.
 
The second quarter began with each team trading baskets, before Quinnipiac drilled four-straight from beyond the arc to take a 35-18 advantage over the home team. The Big Red would go into the locker room trailing 42-24.
 
Cornell came out hot to start the second half, outscoring Quinnipiac 11-5 in the first 4:20 of the third to make it a 47-35 contest. However after a jumper from Jackson with 5:17 on the clock, the Cornell offense went silent for the rest of the quarter, allowing Quinnipiac to go on an 8-0 run and take a 47-37 lead into the fourth.
 
The Bobcats would lead by at least 19 the rest of the way, taking a 23-point lead midway through the final quarter.

• Cornell moves to 0-2 all-time against Quinnipiac.
• The loss snaps a six-game win streak for Cornell on games played on Dec. 6.
• Kaus led the Big Red in scoring for the fourth time this season, finishing with double figures for the seventh time.
• Childers scored a season-best five points, connection on her first career 3-pointer.
• Cornell shot less than 30.0 percent from the floor for the second time this season.
• The 24 points Quinnipiac scored in the second quarter is the most points allowed by the Big red in any quarter this season.
• The Bobcats' 11 3-pointers is the most by an opposing team since Brown knocked down 10 in a game on March 2, 2024.
