ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's basketball fell to Harvard 66-29 on Friday night in Newman Arena as the Crimson came out strong and never died down for the full 40 minutes. The Big Red fell to 6-16 on the season and 2-7 in the Ivy League with the loss.
Ball control proved to be the biggest issue for Cornell in this game as the Big Red had 24 turnovers and only had one steal while Harvard had 9 turnovers and 12 steals. The Big Red's one steal came from Jackson while the Crimson were led in steals by Anderson who had three.
While Cornell struggled with ball control and to keep up with the pace of Harvard, the team was able to find some opportunities at the net. Rachel Kaus led the team in points with eight, Summer Parker-Hall had six and went 4-4 from the free-throw line, Lexi Green had five, Vivienne Knee had three, Emily Pape, Paige Engels and Clarke Jackson each had two and Azareya Kilgoe had one. Harvard had two players in double digits with Harmoni Turner leading in scoring with 21 points and Elena Rodriguez had 18.
The Big Red were competitive on the boards having 29 to Harvard's 34. Parker-Hall led the team with eight, Knee had four, Jackson had three, Pape, Engels, Kaus and Kilgoe all had two and Alana Andrews and Kelsey Langston had one each. Gabby Anderson led Harvard in rebounds with six.
Both teams saw more success on fast breaks and off of the dribble with Cornell having eight assists and Harvard having 15. Engels and Parker-Hall each had two assists and Kaus, Pape, Kilgoe and Knee each had one. Karlee White led Harvard in assists with five.
Harvard jumped out to an eight-point lead to start the game and while Cornell tried to come back and close the gap, Harvard's aggressive play style was not an easy battle as the Crimson would end up outsourcing the Big Red 66-29 and taking the victory.
The Big Red will have a quick turnaround as it looks to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 15 in its match-up against Dartmouth at 5:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
