PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team made a statement on the opening night of the 2025 Ivy League Championships, setting two school records in relay events and delivering a historic individual performance at Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

Wes Newman, the Philips H. Bartels '71 Head Coach of Men's Swim was pleased with the effort and focus that his team brought on the first day of the championships. "I couldn't have asked for a better start to the meet", Newman added.

The Big Red wasted no time in rewriting the record books, downing the 200-yard medley relay school record with a time of 1:24.67. The quartet of Pietro Ubertalli, Sebastian Wolff, Joseph Gurski, and Josh Toothman secured a third-place finish in the event. The momentum carried into the 800-yard freestyle relay, where the Big Red squad of Ubertalli, Jacques Grove, Jack Banks, and Dominic Edwards shattered another school record with a time of 6:17.54, earning a podium finish in third place.

Ubertalli, a key contributor to both record-setting relays, had a night to remember individually as well. Leading off the 800 free relay, he clocked a time of 1:33.01 in the 200-yard freestyle, breaking one of the longest-standing records in Cornell swimming history.
