ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's tennis team will continue non-conference play when it heads to The Bronx for a pair of weekend matches at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center, including a ranked Ivy League matchup. The 24th-ranked Big Red will face No. 37 Yale on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. before facing VCU on Sunday, March 2 at 10 a.m.
The Big Red brings an 8-3 dual record into the weekend on the strength of consecutive win, the most recent a 4-3 triumph over No. 33 Michigan State this past Sunday. All-American
Radu Papoe, ranked No. 40 individually entering the weekend, sports a 15-5 record to lead the Big Red. Head coach Silviu Tanasiou has a 178-101 record in his 14 seasons on the sidelines for the Big Red.
The weekend will bring a pair of high-level opponents. Cornell has a 12-match win streak over the Bulldogs, with five of those wins by the narrowest of margins at 4-3. In fact, eight of the past 15 matches between the Ivy rivals have been 4-3 finals. Meanwhile, this will be the fourth consecutive season the Big Red and VCU have met on the courts, with the squads splitting those meetings down the middle after Cornell earned a 4-1 victory last season in Richmond.
