Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. --- Cornell men's tennis defeated Purdue and Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon in a double-match day. The Big Red moved to 5-2 overall on the season with the two wins.
CORNELL VS. PURDUE
Singles play proved to be the difference maker for Cornell on Sunday afternoon as the Big Red defeat Purdue 5-2 and move to 4-2 overall on the season.
The match began with doubles play. Aleksa Krivokapic and Juan David Velasquez opened the day by defeating
Rushil Khosla and
Eric Verdes 6-2. Maj Premzl and Henrik Villangerthen defeated
Radu Papoe and
Rodrigo Fernandes 6-3. The final doubles match went unfinished resulting in Purdue earning the doubles play point and going up 1-0 heading into singles play.
Purdue opened the singles play with a victory for Premzl who defeated
Aman Sharma 6-1, 6-1 to put the Boilermakers up 2-0. Cornell came back and won the remaining five singles matches to take the win 5-2 over Purdue.
Felipe Pinzon defeated Nour Fathalla 6-2, 6-4,
Adit Sinha defeated Velasquez 6-4, 6-3, Fernandes defeated Stefan Simeunovic in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, Papoe defeated Krivokapic in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and
Nathan Mao defeated Villanger in three sets 6(4)-7, 6-4, 6-3.
CORNELL VS. QUINNIPIAC
The Big Red began by going 2-0 in doubles play. Mao and Sinha defeated Elias Hoxha and Finn Burridge 6-2, Khosla and Verdes defeated Daniel Velek and James Lorenzetti 6-2 and the third match went unfinished earning Cornell the doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, Cornell won five of the six matches. Sinha defeated Velek 6-4, 6-2, Mao defeated Carlos Braun-Simo 6-1, 6-2, Pinzon defeated Burridge 6-3, 6-4, Verdes defeated Hoxha 6-1, 6-2, Khosla defeated Lorenzetti 6-2, 6-2 and
Maxwell Moadel fell to Alex Yang 1-6, 3-6.
After singles play, the Big Red won the match 6-1
