DE KALB, Ill. -- The Cornell women's tennis won its fifth consecutive dual match with a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday evening at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House. Cornell improved to 6-2 on the season. The win snapped NIU's six-match win streak and dropped the Huskies to 11-3 on the year.
Cornell claimed the doubles point with a win at No. 3, as
Andrea Martinez De Los Rios and
Alexandra Savu held off NIU, 7-5. The Big Red won four of its singles matches in straight sets, including
Michelle Ryndin's 7-5, 6-4 triumph at the top slot on the ladder. Cornell clinched the win when De Los Rios closed out a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Isabella Righi in the sixth spot.
Cornell closes the weekend when it visits DePaul on Sunday, March 2 at 12:30 p.m. at the XS Tennis Village. The Blue Demons (6-5) feature the 49th-ranked doubles team in the country in Eva Goncharov and Hannah Smith. DePaul has won two straight and is coming off a 6-1 win at Creighton in its last competition on Feb. 22.
