ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's track and field split down the east coast attending three meets on the opening weekend of the outdoor season. The Big Red made appearances at the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa Fl., The 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C and the Penn Challenge in Philadelphia, Pa.
USF ALUMNI INVITATIONAL
Avery Hilliard shined in the women's pole vault, finishing fourth with a clearance of 4.10m, while Quincy Hansen placed tenth with a mark of 3.90m.
Anika Sukumar earned eighth place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.99m. Margaux Rawson cleared 1.65m in the high jump, securing ninth place.
Elise Sawyer and Reyne Rodrigues competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing eighth and ninth with times of 59.28 and 1:00.05, respectively. Sawyers time was her personal best and sent her up the outdoor top 10 list to the eighth position.
The 4x100m relay team, featuring Jada Smith, Takiya Henson, Natasha Redmond, and Imani Reid, raced to a tenth-place finish while the 4x400m relay team, consisting of Elise Sawyer, Imani Reid, Francine Stevens, and Reyne Rodrigues, also claimed tenth place.
49ER CLASSIC
The 49er Classic featured standout performances from the women's team. Noelle Elkinton had a stellar meet, winning the shot put with a personal best of 15.03m to tie for second on the top 10 list, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 45.02m, and placing seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.86m.
Claire Springer placed ninth in the shot put with a mark of 13.09m. Avery Hastings finished third in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 54.16m, rocketing her to fifth on the in Cornell history books in the event, while Nicole Loy placed ninth with a throw of 47.37m.
PENN CHALLENGE
Over in Philadelphia, Elizabeth Graham earned second place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.23m, followed by Rebecca Griebel in third with a mark of 10.15m.
Continuing with the jumpers, Syna Sony placed fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.66m, and Johanna Stuard finished seventh with a mark of 1.61m. Tia Taylor excelled in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles, placing fourth with a jump of 5.27m and third in the hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.57 seconds. Sade Falese placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.23m.
Justine Hounsell clocked 58.03 seconds in the 400m to place fifth, while Glen Parker finished fifth in the 200m with a time of 25.78 seconds.
In the 3000m, Bronwyn Parks placed fourth in 10:02.95, and Lucia Werner followed in fifth with a time of 10:11.13.
Audrey Hubbell finished fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds, while Brianna Beckman and Skyy Johnson finished seventh and eighth in the 100m with times of 12.48 and 12.50 seconds, respectively. Kate Fenwick earned fourth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.26 in her first attempt in the Big Red uniform, while freshman Sharlyn Ramirez-Castillo placed fifth in 1:18.62.
