ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's heavyweight rowing program registered four victories as it raced Drexel in its first race of the spring season on the Cayuga Inlet on Saturday morning.
Cornell registered victories in the first four varsity races as Drexel lone victory came in the 5V8 event as the crews raced with a swirling cross-head wind with a very light chop that switched more towards head as racing went on during the second 1000-meter of the 2000-meter course.
The Big Red opened the day with a victory in the 3V8 race, edging out Drexel by 1.2 seconds with a 6:11.8 time. The 1V8 went next, posting a 10-second victory with the best time clocked on the day (6:03.2). Cornell's 2V8 recorded the largest victory of the day, clocking a 6:10.6, which was nearly 15 seconds faster than the Dragons crew, which hit a log around the 800-meter mark.
Rounding out the victories for the Big Red was the 4V8+ as it posted a 6:16.0 time, which was just shy of winning by 10 seconds (9.9-second win).
Drexel's lone win of the day came in the last event of the day, where the Dragons' crew posted a 6:29.1 time ahead of Cornell's 6:44.1 clip.
