ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's tennis team picked up a big regional win with a 4-0 sweep of Buffalo on Thursday evening at the Reis Tennis Center. Cornell improved to 7-3, while the Bulls slipped to 13-2.
The tandem of
Emma Baker and
Victoria Zhao won a 9-7 tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to give Cornell the doubles point after the team split at the top two spots. Cornell's
Jenny Wong and
Sage Loudon were victorious at No. 1, taking a 6-3 triumph to take a 1-0 lead before the Bulls evened it up with a victory at No. 2.
The Big Red won in straight sets at 1, 3 and 6 to close out the win before the other three matches could finish. Cornell led in the third set in two of the matches and had just evened the other match at 1-1 when Cornell was declared the winner.
Andrea Martinez De Los Rios clinched the victory with her 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Liz Roestel at No. 6.
Michelle Ryndin handed Esmee Andresen her second loss of the year at No. 1 singles with a straightforward 6-2, 6-4 victory, while
Sage Loudon also captured a victory with her 6-0, 7-6(3) triumph at No. 3 to make it 3-0.
The Big Red will head to the nation's capitol when it visits Howard on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m., then heads to Georgetown on Sunday, March 16 at 10:45 a.m.
