ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 10 Cornell wrestling team is set to compete in the Inaugural Ivy League Tournament on March 9 hosted by Princeton at Jadwin Gymnasium.

INAUGURAL IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
Princeton will host the Inaugural Ivy League Tournament on March 9 at Jadwin Gymnasium. All matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
Cornell, leads the way with six No. 1 seeds as Tyler Ferrera claimed the top spot at 133, Meyer Shapiro, last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year, earned the top seed at 157 pounds, Julian Ramirez is at the top of 165, Simon Ruiz named top of 174, Chris Foca at 184 and Ashton Davis at 285 round out the top seeds. Princeton's Marc-Anthony McGowan (125) and Luke Stout (197) earn the last two No. 1 seeds.
In the first year of the Ivy League Wrestling Tournament, the conference garnered 26 automatic berths, the fourth-most among all conferences, for the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 20-22 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
First-round action kicks off on Sunday, March 9 at 10 a.m. followed by the semifinals at 12 p.m. The consolation brackets begin at 2:30 p.m. with the consolation semifinals followed by the consolation finals and fifth-place matches at 4 p.m.
Championship matches begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the awards presentation.
SWEEPING UP AWARDS
Cornell took each of the year end awards, naming Meyer Shapiro as the Wrestler of the Year, Simon Ruiz as the Rookie of the Year and Coach Mike Grey and his staff were named as Coaching Staff of the Year.
Meyer Shapiro is the highest ranked Ivy League wrestler with a 9-1 overall record at 157 pounds and an undefeated record in Ivy League duals. Shapiro's most notable wins this season came in December against No. 10 Ed Scott of NC State and then in the last dual against Bucknell's No. 22 Jude Swisher. Of his nine wins, five are bonus with four technical falls and one fall.
Simon Ruiz has already made his mark at Cornell. The freshman is 19-5 on the season and undefeated in Ivy matches at 174 pounds. Ruiz has remained in the top 15 all season picking up seven wins over ranked opponents and led the team in bonus wins throughout the season with 12, seven being technical falls. Ruiz's arguably largest accomplishment came on Feb. 9 in his 4-3 decision over No. 10 Nick Incontrera of Penn who had beat him at the Journeymen Classic at the beginning of the season.
Coach Mike Grey led his team to its fourth consecutive Ivy League Dual Meet wrestling title and 44th overall Ivy title. The Big Red also finished second at last year's NCAA tournament with one individual champ and two additional All-Americans under Grey's guidance. This season, seven individual wrestlers remained in the rankings each week throughout the season with all 10 weights being ranked for five weeks.
SPEAKING OF RANKINGS
Eight Big Red wrestlers find themselves on the third and final coaches' ranking for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. A minimum of eight matches were required to be ranked.
Tyler Ferrara (133) ranked 31st, Josh Saunders (141) ranked 26th, Ethan Fernandez (149) ranked 23rd, Meyer Shapiro (157) ranked 2nd, Julian Ramirez (165) ranked 5th, Simon Ruiz (174) ranked 12th, Chris Foca (184) ranked 8th and Mikey Dellagatta (197) ranked 21st.
The second round of Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships came out this past week as well. The RPI is a calculation consists of three factors: winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked.
Six Cornell wrestlers appear on the first RPI. Marcello Milani (125) ranked 26th, Tyler Ferrara (133) joined the rankings at 28th, Josh Saunders (141) ranked 30th, Ethan Fernandez (149) ranked 23rd, Julian Ramirez (165) ranked 16th, Simon Ruiz (174) ranked 15th, Chris Foca (184) joins the rankings at 4th, Mikey Dellagatta (197) came in ranked 23rd and Ashton Davis (285) ranked 32nd.
Eight wrestlers are ranked in the top 30 in various polls including Flowrestling, InterMat and WrestleStat.
Meyer Shapiro comes in at the highest for Cornell at first on WrestleStat and second on InterMat.

SENIOR DAY RECAP
The Cornell wrestling team celebrated senior day with a 27-18 win over the Bucknell Bison on Feb. 22.
The match started with a forfeit at 125 from Bucknell to give the Big Red a six-point edge.
No. 30 Josh Saunders and No. 20 Ethan Fernandez each grabbed bout wins to give Cornell a two-point advantage going into halftime.
Seniors No. 5 Julian Ramirez and No. 6 Chris Foca each won their final bouts in Frideman. Ramierz earned a ranked win over No. 22 Noah Mulvaney while Foca picked up a technical fall over Logan Deacetis.
No. 24 Mikey Dellagatta had a quick match with a fall in 1:56 over Mikey Bartush.
