NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Cornell men's polo team claimed the 2025 Northeast Women's D2 Regional Championship with a pair of wins over the weekend, including a 19-15 win over Babson on Sunday afternoon to clinch the title. The Big Red defeated Yale 28-1 on Friday to set up the de facto championship match.
"I'm really proud of our guys for playing some of their best arena polo of the season at Yale this weekend," said head coach Tony Condo. "We are looking forward to participating in the DII National Tournament on our own home turf from April 9-3. The men will join our women (who qualified by defeating UNH last weekend), as both teams look to add two more championship banners to the Oxley rafters."
Cornell jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first chukker and maintained that lead most of the way, going up 17-9 entering the fourth only to hold off Babson late. The Big Red's opponent scored six in a row to crawl back within 17-15 in the fourth, but Benito Jaramillo shut the door with the game's final two scores. Jaramillo netted nine goals two days after scoring 12 against the Bulldogs.
Along with Jaramillo's dozen scores against the Bulldogs,
Max Sponer scored eight as part of the easy victory. Sponer also scored seven in the championship match vs. Babson.
Cornell improved to 7-6 overall on the season and clinched a spot at the D2 National Championships that will be hosted by the Big Red at Oxley Equestrian Center beginning on April 9.
