ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's tennis team earned its first Ivy win of 2025, returning home with a 4-1 victory over Penn on Sunday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 11-7 (1-4), while the Quakers slipped to 10-9 (3-2 Ivy).
Michelle Ryndin clinched the team win with an impressive three-set victory over No. 72 Sabine Rutlauka in the top slot in the order, earning the 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory to ignite the home crowd. Ryndin improved to 10-6 on the year in singles. She was also tied at 5-5 with teammate
Sage Loudon at No. 1 doubles before the Big Red claimed the win when
Alexandra Savu and
Emma Baker closed out a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
The team victory matched the Big Red's total in Ivy play from a year ago, with its 11 wins three more than it recorded during an 8-14 campaign.
Victoria Zhao was a 6-2, 6-3 winner in straight sets over Lara Stojanovski at No. 3 singles, while
Emma Baker claimed her second win of the day with a 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 6 over Maya Urata to put Cornell on the brink of victory. Jenny Won held a lead in the third set at No. 4 when the match was called at 4-1.
Cornell will close out the 2025 regular season at home next weekend when it meets Dartmouth on Saturday, April 19 and Harvard on Sunday, April 20 with both matches starting at 1 p.m.
