ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's tennis team claimed its third consecutive win after closing out a 4-2 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 13-7 (2-4 Ivy) and doubled up its conference win total from a year ago. The Big Green slipped to 9-12, 2-4 Ivy).
The Big Red picked up the doubles point the hard way as it came down to a 7-5 decision at the top spot in the order with
Michelle Ryndin and Loudon Sage pulling out the victory. The win was set up by more strong play from
Emma Baker and
Alexandra Savu at No. 3, as the duo improved to 4-0 in conference play with a 6-1 triumph.
Cornell stretched the lead to 2-0 when
Victoria Zhao earned a 7-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3 and the Big Red never trailed. The teams traded wins until
Jenny Wong closed out a comeback after dropping the first set to top Sam Grosjean at No. 4, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Michelle Ryndin also picked up a win at No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Peyton Capuano.
The Big Red will close out the campaign and celebrate Senior Day when it meets Harvard on Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center.
