ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's tennis team got back to its winning ways with a 7-0 sweep of Le Moyne on Wednesday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 10-4, while the Dolphins slipped to 7-8.
The Big Red dominated from start to finish in the midweek dual match, making quick work of the Dolphins to go up 4-0, then claiming three straight third set tiebreakers to complete the sweep. Cornell is 9-2 in its last 11 matches, answering a 4-0 loss at the hands of No. 71 Columbia the last time out.
Emma Baker and
Alexandra Savu got Cornell rolling at No. 3 doubles, punching out a 6-0 victory before
Sage Loudon and
Michelle Ryndin decided the point with a 6-2 triumph at No. 1 in their first contest together leading into singles play.
Cornell won at the top three spots on the ladder while surrendering just seven total games to clinch the team win over the Dolphins. With the final three matches all heading into a third set, the contests all were decided in a tiebreaker to 10, which the Big Red swept. Both
Seychelle Balog and
Martina Marica at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, rallied after dropping the first set to claim wins, while
Tanya Fan recovered after dropping set 2 to win at No. 4 with a 10-5 triumph.
Cornell returns to action with a contest at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. before closing the week on Sunday, April 6 at Brown's Indoor Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
