Sailing Finishes Program-Best Fourth At Women's Team Race Nationals

| By:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Cornell women's sailing team reached the final four of the 2025 ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship and placed a best-ever third in the final Ivy standings when the two-day meet concluded on Monday afternoon.

After winning its final two matches of the first round to qualify for the top six, the Big Red won a sail-off against Dartmouth to reach its first-ever final four at the championships to guarantee its best-ever finish (sixth in 2023). The Big Red finished 1-4-5 to advance with the boats featuring sophomore Winborne Majette and junior Sophia Mulvania, juniors Sophia Devling and Sophia Pearce, and seniors Bridget Green and Amelia Neumann. The win improved Cornell's record to 5-3 on Monday.

Cornell sat seventh after day one and fifth among Ivy schools and had to climb through the field to advance. The Big Red needed to win its final two matches that were held up from day one in order to qualify, and it did just that. It completed the round robin and snuck into the round of six with wins over both Stanford and MIT, the latter a 1-2-3 sweep.

The Big Red joined the Big Green at 2-3 in the final six after wins over Dartmouth and Tulane, then toppled its Ivy rival for a second time in the span of two hours in the sailoff.

The team only got one race off in the final four before time shut down the regatta, with eventual national champion Stanford picking up the victory. Yale, who finished second nationally, claimed the Ivy title with its finish, one spot ahead of Harvard.

Cornell got off the deck on Sunday with wins over Tufts and Penn as part of a 2-0 start before suffering consecutive losses to Harvard and Dartmouth. The Big Red split competitions with Charleston (win) and Tulane (loss), then topped Georgetown before falling to Brown and Yale to complete day one.

Majette, Devling and Green skippered Cornell's entries, with Fogarty, Neumann, Pearce and Hope Campbell all getting some time as crew.

The Big Red also placed 14th as a team at the Admiral's Cup. A Division featured skippers Boris Bialer (races 1-4, 7-12) and Maya Conway (races 5-6), with Conway also helping out as crew (races 1-4) along with Wynne Williams (races 5-12). B Division placed 12th in the field with Marcus Greco as skipper and Ava Stevens (races 1-6, 9-10) and Theodore Taylor (races 7-8, 11-12) as crew.

Next up for the Big Red is the ICSA Open & Women's Fleet Race Nationals held May 19-30 in St. Mary's City, Md.
