ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's hockey senior forward
Ondrej Psenicka has signed a two-year contract with HC Plzeň in the Czech Extraliga, it was announced Tuesday morning (May 13). Psenicka's contract is a two-year deal with an option, per the
organization's release.
Psenicka, who will be returning to his native Czechia, has played hockey in North America since the 2019-20 season, when he played one year for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL before suiting up for the Big Red over the last four seasons.
"
Ondrej is a very intelligent player with excellent physical parameters," HC Plzeň
head coach Josef Jandač said in a translation of the release. "His height and strength will be a valuable asset to us, especially in the offensive phase. We believe that he will have ideal conditions for further growth in our team."
During his time with Cornell, Psenicka amassed 79 points (38-41—79) in 131 games with the Big Red, which included having a career-high 13 assists and 22 points (9-13—22) this past year while playing in 30 games.
Psenicka had at least 21 points in three of his four seasons with the Big Red, which included his career-high 12 goals as a freshman during the 2021-22 season. Concluding his Cornell career with a plus-58 rating, he is tied with defenseman
Tim Rego for the highest plus-minus rating in program history since 2006-07, when plus-minus was tracked for an entire season. Psenicka is one of five Big Red players to have a career plus-minus rating of at least plus-50, also joining Greg Miller (plus-52), Travis Mitchell (plus-51), and
Kyle Penney (plus-50).
