Sailing Closes Season At Open Eastern Semifinals

ST. MARY's CITY, Md. -- The Cornell sailing team closed out its 2024-25 campaign by placing 10th overall at the Open Eastern Semifinals on Wednesday evening, falling on spot shy of reaching the finals. The top nine in the 18-team field advanced to Thursday's championship round.

The Big Red went into the final race of the weekend gripping the ninth and final qualifying spot for finals, but MIT (first) and Hobart (fourth) both passed Cornell in the final race to advance. A division took seventh overall in the field with Bridget Green (races 1-8) and Winborne Majette (races 9-10) as skipper and Sophia Mulvania (races 1-4, 7-8), Hope Campbell (races 5-6) and Amelia Neumann (races 9-10) as crew. B division saw Sophia Devling skipper all 10 races, with Sophia Pearce (races 1-3), Neumann (races 4-6) and Sophia Fogarty (races 7-10) as crew. Reserves for the weekend included Gilda Dondona, Ava Gustafson and Kate Moran.

Cornell was making its first appearance in the semifinals since 2023, last making the finals in 2019 when it made its highest-ever finish at 10th.
