BUFFALO, N.Y. — Cornell battled hard but fell to Northwestern in four sets Saturday afternoon at the Buffalo Classic, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-17.
The Big Red (3-3) outpaced the Wildcats in total kills, 55-50, but Northwestern's efficiency proved the difference. The Wildcats hit .369 as a team, while Cornell posted a .250 mark.
Senior outside hitter Eliza Konvicka again paced Cornell's attack with 19 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, adding two service aces and a pair of blocks. Mackenzie Parsons followed with 12 kills on an impressive .526 clip, while Meghan Gaffigan and Haley Clark chipped in seven apiece.
Cornell's setters kept the offense moving, with Doga Ozalp dishing 25 assists and Mikayla Gray adding 22. Libero Sarita Pomar anchored the back row with 14 digs, and middle blockers Ava Bogan and Parsons tallied three blocks each.
Northwestern (8-1) closed strong, posting a .682 hitting percentage in the fourth set behind standout performances from Isabella Bullington and Rylen Reid.
The Big Red will look to close the weekend on a high note when they face host Buffalo on Sunday, September 14 at 1 p.m.
