ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 10-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the St. Lawrence Saints 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 11-6-2, while the Saints dropped to 7-14-2.

Lilien Benakova and Alezia Côté scored goals for the Saints. Brook Mulvihill and Rylan Haslam were credited with helpers. Emma-Sofie Nordström made 33 saves.
MacEachern got things started, providing a blue-line goal to put Cornell ahead 1-0 early. Five minutes later Grober was able to get a shot on net which Pearson collected for a rebound goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Former Cornell skater
Alexa Davis '25 proved to be on comfortable ice, managing three shots-on-goal in the first period, including a grade-A chance after a forced turnover.
Midway through the second period
Georgia Schiff was tabbed with a tripping-infraction, but Cornell succesfully challenged a hit to the head at the same junction, sending Mastel to the dressing room and a Saints skater to the box for five minutes. During the Big Red skater-advantage, Prefontaine was awarded a goal after another successful challenge by Cornell, giving the Big Red insurance. Less than one minute later Benakova scored short-handed to cut the deficit back to two.
Côté made things interesting when she found the back of the net one minute into the third period to bring the score to 3-2. Prefontaine scored 20 seconds later to put a damper on the Saints' rally-attempt. Grober added exclamation during a Saint Lawrence power-play with less than one minute remaining, putting home an empty-net short-handed goal to seal Cornell's first victory since November.

The no. 10-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will return to the ice next weekend for road-action against Ivy League foes Brown and Yale. The Big Red will meet the Bears on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium. Cornell will close out the weekend-series on Saturday against Yale at 3:00 p.m. at Ingalls Ice Rink.
