PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The no. 10-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Brown Bears 3-1 on Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium. The Big Red improved to 12-6-2, while the Bears dropped to 11-9-2.

Grace Dwyer scored goals for the Big Red.

Lindzi Avar, and Van Gelder were credited with assists.
Annelies Bergmann made 35 saves in the contest, including 14 in the third period.
Monique Lyons scored the lone goal for the Bears, coming on a late power-play. Rory Edwards made 25 saves between the pipes for Brown.
Van Gelder got the scoring started eight minutes into the game when she was in the right place at the right time to put in a rebound from Adam's chance. Brown had two power-play chances in the opening stanza, but was shut down by Cornell's high-ranked penalty-kill unit.
Curtis extended Cornell's lead to 2-0, banking in the Big Red's second rebound-goal of the evening. The Bears had two more chances on the power-play in the second frame to cut the Big Red advantage in half, but was denied once again. Bergmann made seven stops during Brown's four minutes of power-play time in the second period.
In the third period, Dwyer added another goal to Cornell's total, making it three unanswered by the Big Red. Lyons spoiled Bergmann's shutout when Cornell was tabbed with it's fifth penalty of the game, but the lead proved insurmountable as the Big Red skated away with it's first victory on the road since November.
