Noard Hits 1,000 Points, Fiegen Scores 31 as Men's Hoops Earns Road Win at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior Jake Fiegen poured in a career-high 31 points and classmate Cooper Noard became the 29th 1,000-point scorer in program history as Cornell rolled to an 89-67 Ivy League win at Brown on Monday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Big Red napped a three-game skid in improving to 8-9 (1-3 Ivy), while the Bears fell to 7-10 (1-3 Ivy).

After Brown scored the first bucket and Cornell answered with a 3-pointer, the Big Red led the rest of the wau and built its largest advantage before halftime, closing the opening period with a flourish. With time winding down, Noard drilled a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to reach the 1,000-point milestone and send the Big Red into the locker room with a 45-28 lead to punctuate a 22-5 spurt.

Fiegen was dominant throughout, finishing 12-of-15 from the field to go along with nine rebounds as Cornell shot .534 overall and .414 from beyond the arc on 12 makes. Noard added 20 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line, while sophomore Anthony Nimani chipped in nine points off the bench after missing the previous three Ivy contests due to injury. The visitors assisted on 20 of its 31 field goals and outscored the Bears 38-24 in the paint, winning the battle of the boards 34-29..

Cornell's defense forced Brown to struggle offensively in the first half, shooting just 34 percent from the floor and going 2-for-12 from beyond the arc. Jeremiah Jenkins led the Bears with 17 points, while Isaiah Langham added 14 off the bench.

The Big Red set the tone early with balanced scoring and defensive pressure, opening the game on a 7-2 run and steadily pushing the margin into double figures. Cornell knocked down eight 3-pointers in the first half and forced 10 Brown turnovers before the break.

The Bears showed some life after halftime, trimming the deficit briefly , but Cornell answered every surge. A mid-second-half run capped by baskets from Fiegen and Noard pushed the lead back beyond 20, and the Big Red coasted the rest of the way.

Big Red junior Jacob Beccles had six points, five assists and three steals in the win, while classmate Kaspar Sepp chipped in six rebounds and five assists.

• Cornell closes out its three-game Ivy road swing when it faces Harvard on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge, Mass.

• The Big Red leads the all-time series 99-88 and has won three of the past four meetings, though the Crimson captured a 75-73 triumph in the last meeting at Harvard on Feb. 14, 2025.
