#12 Big Red Suffers 5-1 Loss At The Hands Of #4 Penn State

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 12-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team fell 5-1 to the no. 4-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions on Tuesday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red dropped to 12-8-2, while the Nittany Lions improved to 22-4-0.

Cornell's four-goal loss proved to be it's largest margin of defeat at Lynah Rink since 2022. Shannon Pearson scored the lone goal for Cornell, which was unassisted. Annelies Bergmann made 25 saves in the contest.

Janecke, Outwater, Stonehouse, Morrow, and Christian were responsible for Penn State's goals. Katie DeSa made 25 stops between the pipes and earned her second win of the season against the Big Red.

The Nittany Lions opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game when 2026 United States Olympic Team member Janecke forced a turnover and took matters into her own hands to give Penn State a 1-0 lead.

Pearson found the equalizer for Cornell 1:27 into the second period. The Nittany Lions regained the lead when Outwater struck the back of the net at 12:08 into the second frame. Although trailing by a goal after two periods, the Big Red held a significant 20-13 advantage in shots.

The contest seemed to be headed for a spectacular finish, but Penn State took control of the game, exploding four three consecutive goals in the third stanza. Stonehouse extended the lead to 3-1. Morrow added insurance at the 14:09-mark. Christian put the game out of reach with the empty-net tally to grant Penn State the season-sweep over Cornell.

Top Performer: Tessa Jenecke (PSU) - Registered two points on one goal and one assist.
Winning Goaltender: Katie DeSa (PSU) - Made 25 saves for the Nittany Lions.
