Turnovers Plague Big Red in 84-38 Loss to Harvard

ITHACA, N.Y. - Harvard scored 39 of its 84 points off of 31 Cornell turnovers Saturday afternoon inside Newman Arena, earning an 84-38 win over the Big Red in Ivy League women's basketball action.  

The Crimson (10-8, 3-2 Ivy) had three players reach double figures in the contest, led by 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-7 from three from Mary Hollensteiner. Olivia Jones added 17 points and nine assists in 28 minutes of action, while Karlee White contributed 10 points, going 5-of-7 from the floor. As a team, Harvard shot 49.3 percent from the field, including 12-of-26 from three, while outrebounding the Big Red 35-27. 

Senior Emily Pape finished with nine points, making three shots from behind the arc, while leading the team in rebounding with five and assists with three. Junior Clarke Jackson and freshman Ally Pape finished with seven points. Cornell (7-11, 2-3 Ivy) went 13-of-38 from the field, knocking down 6-of-16 from 3-point land and adding six makes on 10 attempts at the line. 

Harvard led wire-to-wire as it built a 9-2 lead in the opening 4:20 of the contest, which eventually grew to 15-4 with 3:02 remaining in the opening quarter after back-to-back threes. Cornell would get a layup from Rachel Kaus, who finished with three points, and a 3-pointer from Ally Pape to end the quarter and go into the second down nine, 19-10. 

Emily Pape knocked down two of her three threes to start the second quarter to make it a 21-16 game, the closest margin from that point on and since trailing 5-2 early in the first. However, Harvard rattled off a 12-0 run over the next 2:16 of game play, taking a 33-16 lead before the Big Red found the bottom of the basket again. Following a two-minute scoreless drought for both sides, Harvard went on to outscore Cornell 16-5 in the final four minutes of the first half, taking a 49-24 lead into the break. 

Despite Kelsey Langston starting the second half strong for the Big Red with a three, Harvard's offense didn't skip a beat, taking off on a 10-run after the made three from Langston to make it a 59-27 game with 6:39 to go in the third. 

Harvard would have a 68-34 lead going into the fourth and final quarter of the contest, a quarter in which they held the Big Red to four points, while scoring 16 of its own to give the game its 84-38 final. 

Game Notes
• Saturday marked the 93rd meeting all-time between Cornell and Harvard, with the Crimson extending its lead in the series to 79-14. 
• Harvard has won seven-straight over the Big Red, including four inside Newman Arena. 
• The 46 point loss to Harvard is the largest loss by Cornell in the all-time series with the Crimson. 
• The Big Red's 31 turnovers is the most in a game since turning the ball over 33 times on Dec. 4, 2021 at Niagara. 
• Saturday marked the first time since the season opener at Bryant on Nov. 7, 2025 that Cornell didn't have a player in double figure points.
