HAMDEN, Conn. - The no. 12-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team fell to the no. 6-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at M&T Bank Arena. The Big Red dropped to 13-9-2, while the Bobcats moved to 21-5-2.
Despite out-shooting Quinnipiac 39-32, Cornell was unable to light the lamp in the contest. Bryn Prier, Laurence Frenette, and Kahlen Lamarche scored goals for the Bobcats. Avery Bairos, Lamarche, Taylor Brueske, Mia Lopata, Emerson Jarvis, and Ella Sennick dealt assists.
Annelies Bergmann made 28 saves for Cornell in the setback. Felicia Frank bested her season-high claiming 39 saves and a shutout win against the Big Red.
The Bobcats came out with a strong forecheck, forcing the Big Red into making quick and precise decisions. Cornell and Quinnipiac played a scoreless for 17 minutes of the first period until Prier got things started with her first goal of the day with just over three minutes left in the opening frame. Less than one minute later Frenette added to the lead, making it 2-0 in favor of the Bobcats.
The Big Red found itself with a prime opportunity to cut the Bobcat lead in half on a power-play halfway through the second stanza. Following a handful of good chances by the Big Red on it's power-play, Prier went the other way and cashed in on a short-handed goal to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 3-0.
The Big Red continued it's push during the third period, but came inches away from it's first goal of the game multiple times. Late in the third frame Bergmann skated out of the net as Cornell made a desperate attempt to chip away at the deficit. Lamarche made the Big Red pay, scoring her 30th goal of the season to put the game on ice.

The no. 12-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will return to the ice next weekend for home-action against Ivy League foes Dartmouth and Harvard. The Big Red will meet the Big Green on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Lynah Rink. Cornell will close out the weekend-series on Saturday against Harvard at 3:00 p.m. at Lynah Rink.
