#12 Big Red Skates Past Big Green, 5-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Dartmouth Big Green 5-0 on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 14-9-2, while the Big Green dropped to 4-18-3.

Avi Adam, Georgia Schiff, Beatrice Perron-Roy, Rose Dwyer, and Karel Prefontaine scored goals for the Big Red. Piper Grober (two), Mckenna Van Gelder, Sarah MacEachern, Prefontaine, Adam, and Grace Dwyer were credited with assists in the game.

Annelies Bergmann made 23 saves between the pipes. She earned her fifth shutout and 14th victory of the season. Dartmouth net-minder Jiahui Zhan made 30 saves for the Big Green in the loss.

After a scoreless first period, Adam got the scoring started as she took advantage of a chance on the rush that squeaked by Zhan to give Cornell a 1-0 lead. Schiff found pay-dirt on a rebound from Van Gelder's point-blank shot to extend the Big Red's advantage to 2-0.

Perron-Roy spearheaded a three-goal third period, finding the back of the net at the 2:33-mark to add insurance to Cornell's lead. Just over one minute later, Dwyer provided blue-line scoring to extend the count to 4-0. At 9:39 Prefontaine benefited from getting the puck toward the net when her shot snuck by Zhan to put the game on ice.

After a hot 7-0 start to the season, Cornell has been searching for consistency. The Big Red has won by three or more goals in 11 of it's 14 victories this season. Cornell has scored one goal or less in six of it's nine setbacks. The Big Red's loses have not been due to lack of opportunities, as Cornell has out-shot it's opponent in eight of it's nine loses.

The Big Red will take the road tomorrow against Harvard in it's final Ivy League game of the regular season, looking to stay in the running for a potential third consecutive Ivy League title.
