Men's Tennis Opens Home Schedule Thursday vs. Buffalo

| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's tennis opens its dual match home slate when it welcomes Buffalo to the Reis Tennis Center on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.

Cornell is 2-1 on the season with road wins over Louisville and Purdue and a narrow 4-3 loss this past weekend to Michigan at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Charlottesville, Va. The consolation matchup between the Big Red and Indiana was canceled due to the winter storm that ravaged the East Coast.

Sophomore Rodrgio Fernandes is 11-5 on the season from the top spot, with Felipe Pinzon a perfect 3-0 in dual match competition in the top half of the lineup. The doubles tandem of Rushil Khosla and Senthil Kumar Rethin Pranav is now 8-1 on the season and a percent 3-0 at No. 2 doubles, while the NCAA qualifying pair of Pinzon and Petar Teodorovic is off to a 7-1 start. Head coach Silviu Tanasiou sports a 118-107 career record (.637) entering the weekend.

The Big Red leads the all-time series with the Bulls 28-1 dating back to 1976, including 25-1 in Ithaca. The lone UB win came during the 2013-14 season, a 4-3 victory. The last four matchups between the teams have ended in Cornell shutouts, including a 7-0 sweep on Jan. 27, 2024 in the last meeting.

Buffalo is 0-1 this season following a 4-0 sweep at the hands of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. on Jan. 17. Head coach Lee Nickell is in his 17th season directing the UB program to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including in 2025.
