ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's track and field returns home this weekend to host the Southern Tier Invite on Saturday, Jan. 10, inside Barton Hall, marking the Big Red's second meet of the indoor season.
The Big Red welcome a competitive field that includes Colgate, D'Youville, Hartwick, Ithaca, Le Moyne, Oneonta, St. John Fisher, SUNY Cobleskill, and Syracuse for a full slate of field and track events.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. with field events and runs through a full afternoon of track finals, culminating with the 4x400-meter relays. The meet will feature a full slate of events, providing Cornell with another early-season opportunity to build momentum on its home track.
After a strong season-opening performance, The George Heekin '29 Head Coach of Men's Track and Field Adrian Durant said the focus remains consistent as the calendar turns to January.
"Our first meet went well — we did great for an opener," Durant said. "Heading into this weekend, our goal is the same as it is at every meet: keep building on the last. Keep growing, keep improving and keep scoring more points."
With a long indoor season ahead, Durant emphasized that Cornell's internal culture has been a key driver of sustained development.
"It's the culture that we've created," Durant said. "It's one of support. Our athletes are more than just teammates — they're friends. They want to see each other win and are always cheering each other on. That makes a huge difference and isn't as common at other programs."
Saturday's meet will showcase a packed schedule, highlighted by the mile, 800 meters, 500 meters, 300 meters and 3,000 meters on the track, alongside weight throw, shot put, pole vault, long jump, triple jump and high jump in the field events.
