Beyond the Box Score: The Lehigh Game

| By:

ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell knocked off No. 4 Lehigh, 48-38, and the Big Red's record book got a workout — here's what stood out beyond the final score.

TEAM NOTES

·       Cornell's all-time record now stands at 666-569-34 (.538).

·       Cornell beat No. 4 Lehigh, its first win over a top-five opponent since a 23-14 victory at No. 4 Ohio State on Oct. 28, 1939 and only the third in program history. The Big Red is 3-4-1 all-time against top-five teams and has beaten two ranked teams this season (Yale and Lehigh), the first time it has done that since 2006.

·       The win ended Lehigh's 23-game regular-season winning streak, the longest in Division I entering the week.

·       Cornell gained 600 yards of total offense (234 rushing, 366 passing), its first 600-yard game since 640 against Brown on Oct. 28, 1995.

·       Lehigh entered the game first in the FCS in rushing defense (80.3 yards per game) and second in scoring defense (11.8 points per game). Cornell ran for 234 yards and scored 48 points.

·       Cornell's 48 points are its highest since scoring 49 against Penn on Nov. 9, 2024, and its most in a win since a 49-35 victory at Princeton on Nov. 2, 2024.

·       Cornell did not punt, the first time it has gone a game without a punt since Nov. 20, 1982, against Penn.

·       The Big Red converted 8 of 12 third downs and both of its fourth-down attempts, scored on seven of eight trips to the red zone and held the ball for 36:47 to Lehigh's 23:13.

·       Cornell has intercepted a pass in each of its first five games, the first time that has happened since 2019.

·       Cornell is 18-9-2 all-time against Lehigh and has won three-straight in the series (2022, 2023 and 2026). The Big Red went 2-1 against Patriot League opponents this season.
