Yee Unanimously Named First Team All-Ivy Ahead of Inaugural Ivy League Tournament

| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell junior Xin Ying Yee was unanimously named a First Team All-Ivy selection for the second consecutive season, the Ivy League office announced Thursday ahead of the inaugural Ivy League Women's Squash Tournament, which begins Saturday at the Princeton Racquet and Recreation Fieldhouse in Princeton, N.J.

Yee's back-to-back unanimous First Team honors extend Cornell's streak to six straight seasons with a unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection. The other Big Red honorees in that span were Sivasangari Subramaniam (2020, 2022, 2023) and Wen Li Lai (2022, 2023, 2024).

Seven of the nine First Team honorees earned unanimous selections. Joining Yee were Harvard's Caroline Fouts and Lucie Stefanoni, Penn's Malak Khafagy and Franka Vidovic, and Princeton's Alexandra Jaffe and Zeina Zein. Khafagy claimed Ivy League Player of the Year honors for the second straight year, while Jaffe earned Rookie of the Year.

Yee has gone 7-3 overall this season, playing exclusively at the No. 1 position for the seventh-ranked Big Red (7-6, 3-3 Ivy League). She posted a 3-2 record in Ivy League play, winning all three matches in straight games. Six of her seven victories have come without dropping a game.

Senior Alysa Ali earned Second Team All-Ivy honors, joining Yee as a Cornell representative on the all-conference teams. Ali is tied with junior Maya Voloshin for the team lead with an 8-5 record. Junior Christa Kay was named Cornell's Academic All-Ivy selection.

LAST TIME OUT
Cornell punched its ticket to the inaugural Ivy League Tournament with a 6-3 victory over No. 9 Yale last Saturday at Belkin Squash Courts, claiming the fourth and final qualifying spot when Dartmouth was swept by Penn.

Yee (No. 1), Ali (No. 3) and freshman Lamees Shalaby (No. 9) each won in straight games, while sophomore Sabine Ball (No. 5) and juniors Maya Voloshin (No. 7) and Saniya Jaggi (No. 8) each prevailed in five-game battles.

Ball overcame a 2-2 deficit to defeat Eedha Mehta, taking the decisive fifth game 11-8 after building a 2-0 lead. Jaggi rallied from a 2-0 deficit, reeling off three consecutive 11-6 wins over Layla Johnson. Voloshin edged Whitney Taylor in a marathon finish, winning the final two games 13-11 and 14-12.

The win was Cornell's first over Yale since a 5-4 road victory on Jan. 22, 2023, and just the second home win in program history against the Bulldogs, joining a 6-3 triumph on Jan. 20, 2001.

SCOUTING PRINCETON
Top-ranked Princeton enters the weekend 11-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in Ivy League play, riding a 10-match win streak since a 6-3 loss to No. 4 Stanford on Nov. 23. The Tigers have dropped just nine games during that stretch.

Seven Princeton players have reached double-digit wins this season with Samantha Jaffe leading the way with her 12-0 record. Leila Yosry is the only other unbeaten Tiger at 11-0. Liyen Teoh, Hermione Cao and Sonya Sasson each carry 11-1 records, and Alexandra Jaffe (10-1) and Emma Trauber (10-2) round out the group. Teoh, Cao and Sasson join Samantha Jaffe on active win streaks of at least 10 matches.

SERIES HISTORY WITH PRINCETON
Princeton holds a perfect 32-0 all-time record against Cornell. In the regular-season meeting this year, the Tigers swept the Big Red 9-0 at Belkin Squash Courts on Jan. 30. Yee, Ali, Lai and Voloshin each dropped their matches in four games.
