ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's and women's indoor track and field teams will close out the home portion of their 2025 schedule on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they host the Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. inside Barton Hall.
The annual meet honors the legacy of former Cornell sprinter Marc Deneault, a member of the men's track and field program who specialized in the sprints. During the 1997-98 season, Deneault broke the Cornell freshman record in the 200-meter dash, etching his name into the program's record book. Following his tragic death in an automobile accident in December 1999, the university established the memorial invitational in his name to recognize his contributions to the program and to celebrate the sport he loved.
Deneault's twin brother, Richard Deneault '01, along with other family members, have historically attended the meet and will again be on hand Saturday to help present awards to top performers.
Saturday's competition also will serve as a celebration of Black History Month. In recognition of the team's connections to the African diaspora, flags representing the Pan-African flag, Afro-Caribbean nations, African heritage and home countries, and the Juneteenth flag will be displayed atop the block house. Members of MOCA and WOCA have helped organize the initiative, and all Cornell student-athletes competing or working the meet will wear red "8 Against Hate" shirts as part of the day's amplification efforts.
