Big Red Struggle to Find Offensive Rhythm in 74-37 Loss to Harvard

BOSTON, Mass. – Cornell struggled to establish an offensive rhythm and fell to Harvard 74-37 on Saturday afternoon in Ivy League women's basketball action from Lavietes Pavilion.

Cornell was paced by  junior Rachel Kaus with eight points and four rebounds, while sophomore Audrey Chen and freshman Willa Chinn added seven and five points, respectively. Chinn also contributed four rebounds, three assists and two steals, while freshman Grace Renners added five points off the bench. Senior Emily Pape recorded three steals in the contest. The Big Red (8-16, 3-8 Ivy) shot 50.0 percent from three-point range (6-for-12) but finished at 29.5 percent overall from the field (13-for-44).

The Crimson were led by senior guard Karlee White's game-high 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting, including a 2-for-4 mark from three-point range. Junior Katie Krupa added 10 points and three rebounds, while Alayna Rocco contributed nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Olivia Jones tallied eight points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and Mary Hollensteiner chipped in eight points off the bench. Harvard (15-9, 8-3 Ivy) shot 48.4 percent from the field and outrebounded Cornell 39-21, including 14 offensive boards.

Cornell kept it close early, trailing just 17-8 after the opening quarter before Harvard extended its advantage in the second. White scored 10 of her 24 points in the frame as the Crimson outscored the Big Red 26-12 to take a 43-20 halftime lead.

Harvard maintained its momentum out of halftime, pushing the lead to 62-31 after three quarters. The Crimson's pressure defense forced 21 Cornell turnovers, which Harvard converted into 25 points, contributing to the Big Red's offensive struggles throughout the contest.

"Tonight's game was definitely a tough test for us," said Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 Head Coach of Women's Basketball Emily Garner. "I thought Harvard executed their game plan really well, and although we did a fairly good job handling their pressure, they sped us up and we struggled to find an offensive rhythm. We will go back to work on Monday, and get ready for the last back-to-back of the year."
