TOWSON, MD - The Cornell softball finished day one of the DeMarini Tiger Clash on Friday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium. The Big Red moved to 3-4 on the year after splitting games on day one at Towson.
The Big Red defeated Morgan State 8-0 (five innings) as
Mila Fiordalisi completed the second perfect game in Cornell history.
Tarisa Frans made three hits and produced four RBIs to lead the charge at the plate.
Lauren Holt and
Ella Harrod did damage with their bats and on the bases, registering a combined five hits and four runs. Fiordalisi claimed eight strikeouts in 15 at-bats, as she moved to 1-2 on the season.
Cornell fell in it's second game of the day, as Towson took down the Big Red 8-2.
Emma Harshberger and Holt were responsible for Cornell's runs.
Madalyn Covelli took the mound for Cornell, producing a pair of strikeouts on 20 at-bats in the set-back.
vs Morgan State
Cornell struck first in the opening inning when Holt singled to center field to bring Harrod home. Frans followed with a triple to left field, scoring Holt and
Hailey Pirkey to give the Big Red a 3-0 lead. The early offense set the tone as Cornell controlled the game from the start.
Cornell added to its advantage in the fourth inning as Annie Wolfe drew an RBI walk to bring
Charlize Cai home. Frans delivered again with a double to left center that scored Holt and Harrod to extend the lead to 6-0. The Big Red continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities to build a comfortable cushion.
The Big Red closed the scoring in the fifth inning when Holt singled through the left side to score Susanna Esparza. Harshberger followed with an RBI single to right center to bring Cai home and secure the 8-0 victory. Fiordalisi earned the win in the circle after tossing a five-inning no-hitter.
vs Towson
Towson opened the scoring in the third inning on an RBI single from Aaliyah Ferguson. The Tigers broke the game open in the fourth inning by scoring four runs on a series of RBI singles and fielder's choice plays. The surge gave Towson a 5-0 advantage heading into the middle innings.
Cornell responded in the sixth inning when Frans lifted a sacrifice fly to score Harshberger. Annie Pressley followed with a single to right center that brought Harshberger and Holt home to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Big Red continued to battle late but could not close the gap.
Towson added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its lead. A two-RBI single from Madison Gorczyca and an RBI single from Kayla Peek highlighted the inning. Covelli was charged with the loss in the circle.

The Cornell softball team will return to the diamond tomorrow, as it will face Morgan State. The Big Red and the Bears are slated for a 10:00 a.m. start at Tiger Softball Stadium.
