#11 Big Red Punches Ticket To Lake Placid With Series Sweep Over #13 Colgate

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 11-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the no. 13-ranked Colgate, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. Cornell advances to it's third consecutive ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend with the victory.

Rose Dwyer, Avi Adam, and Georgia Schiff scored goals for the Big Red. Delaney Fleming, Abby Thibodeau, Piper Grober, and Nora Curtis were credited with assists. Mckenna Van Gelder led all skaters in the faceoff circle, winning 26 draws for the Big Red. Annelies Bergmann made 30 saves between the pipes to earn the win.

Cornell opened the scoring midway through the first period when Dwyer found the back of the net at 12:01. Fleming and Thibodeau recorded assists on the even-strength tally to give the Big Red the early lead. Cornell carried the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission after a strong defensive period.

The second period remained scoreless as both teams traded chances and penalty kills. Cornell generated several opportunities but was unable to add to its lead despite extended offensive zone time. The Big Red entered the third period still holding a one-goal advantage.

Cornell extended the lead early in the third period on the power play when Adam scored at 7:29. Grober and Curtis assisted on the goal, which stood as the game-winner. Colgate responded with a power-play goal from Elyssa Biederman at 13:36 to cut the deficit to one.

The Raiders pulled their goaltender late in regulation in search of the equalizer. Schiff sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute to secure the 3-1 victory and advance Cornell to the ECAC Hockey semifinal round.

The no. 11-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will take a trip to Lake Placid for ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend. The semifinal round is slated for Friday, March 6th at Herbs Brooks Arena. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
