Union produced a handful of strong chances in the opening five minutes of the contest but Bergmann weathered the storm to keep the Garnet Chargers off of the board. Three of those early chances came on a Union power-play that the Big Red were able to kill thanks to a vigilant effort in net by Bergmann.
Moments after that kill, Cornell found itself on a power-play of its own. Schiff took advantage of the opportunity and opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 14:17 to give Cornell a 1-0 lead.
The Big Red and the Garnet Chargers were at a stalemate for 15 minutes, with neither team gaining a significant advantage. Midway through the second period, Prefontaine took a fall to the ice but was able to pass the puck over to Adam, who slid the puck over to Van Gelder, who poked the puck into a wide open net to give Cornell a 2-0 lead.
Grober spearheaded a three-goal burst for the Big Red, scoring the second power-play goal of the day for Cornell at the 8:44-mark of the third frame. Moments later, Union turned over the puck and Perron-Roy made the Garnet Chargers pay, extending the lead to 4-0. Six minutes later, Van Gelder put the puck away to seal Cornell's 5-0 shutout win over the Garnet Chargers.
