University Park, Pa. – Cornell women's track and field posted a strong showing Saturday at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge at Penn State's Ashenfelter III Indoor Track, highlighted by several individual victories and top-finishing performances across sprints, throws, jumps and hurdles.
Francine Stevens was the standout for Cornell, winning the 200 meters in 24.34 and then claiming the 400-meter title in 53.69, breaking Cornell's school record and placing her at the top of the Ivy League.
Elise Sawyer delivered a strong second place finish in the 800 meters, clocking 2:11.55. Arianna Allen was runner-up in the hurdles with an 8.54 time, rounding out sprint hurdle scoring for the Big Red.
In the field, Avery Hastings secured first place in the weight throw, posting a best of 18.25 meters. Gabriella Vizcarrondo added a strong showing with a second place mark of 18.24 meters in the same event.
Paula-Marie Brown continued her impressive campaign with a win in the long jump, soaring 6.03 meters for the top mark of the day, and later placed third in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.62.
In the vertical events, Avery Hilliard cleared 4.20 meters to take first in the pole vault,
Anika Sukumar placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.99 meters and Nicole Loy added a podium effort with a second place throw of 14.72 meters in the shot put.
Cornell's balanced results across track and field highlighted the team's depth as the indoor season progresses toward Ivy League and postseason competition.

The Big Red will return to action next weekend in two places: at the Valentine Invite in Boston, MA from Friday, February 13 to Saturday, February 14 and at home for the Robert Kane Invitational on Saturday, February 14.
