Men's Tennis Sweeps Weekend After Victory Over #63 Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. -- The 25th-ranked Cornell men's tennis team earned a ranked road win Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 63 Old Dominion 4-1 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 9-2, while the Monarchs fell to 9-4.

Cornell grabbed the early advantage by sweeping the completed doubles matches to secure the point. The 51st-ranked tandem of Rodrigo Fernandes and Eric Verdes posted a 6-3 win at No. 1, and the 72nd-ranked duo of Rushil Khosla and Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 2. The No. 3 match was left unfinished.

In singles, Cornell won three of the first four completed matches to clinch the victory in an otherwise tight 

At No. 3, Petar Teodorovic gave the Big Red a 2-0 lead with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win over Felix Obermair. Verdes added another key point at No. 2, rallying from a first-set loss to defeat Olivier de Sardan 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Old Dominion earned its lone point at No. 6, where Piet Steveker topped Aman Sharma in three sets.

Cornell sealed the match at the top of the lineup. No. 44 Fernandes battled past Adam Majchrzak 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a tightly contested three-setter to secure the decisive fourth point.

Singles matches at Nos. 4 and 5 went unfinished once the outcome was decided.

The Big Red will face Penn on Saturday, March 7 at 12 p.m. in West Bronx, N.Y.
