ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's tennis posted a dominant 6-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, March 1 at the Reis Tennis Center, improving to 5-5 on the season.
The Big Red swept the doubles point, winning all three matches to set the tone for the afternoon. The duo of Andrea De Los Rios Martinez and
Victoria Zhao led the way at No. 2 doubles, cruising to a 6-2 victory, while
Emma Baker and
Dylan Gelber followed with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Michelle Ryndin and
Sage Loudon closed out the sweep with a 7-6 victory at No. 1.
Cornell carried its momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. Ryndin continued her strong performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Anastasia Lim of FDU 7-5, 6-1. Loudon won in straight sets at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4, while Gelber added a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3.
Martinez battled to a 7-6, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, and Baker wrapped up the team result with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5. Fairleigh Dickinson's Katsiaryna Kostsina claimed the lone point of the day for the Knights, defeating
Martina Marica at No. 6 singles, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.
